Recreation Commission

The Rec Commission manages the town beach & the rec. park. They also run activities such as swim lessons, youth soccer, the “Try”athalon, bike tours, Folsom Ski & Ride club, & ice skating.

The Recreation Commission meets every month, on the 2nd Tuesday at 7:00 pm. For now, the meetings are in person and via Zoom. (link in the agenda)

South Hero Recreation Bicycle Event #1
Thursday, June 27, 2024

Bike to Burlington for Lunch! Group biking event for ages 8 to 80.  Group size is limited to the
first 20 respondents since that is the ferry capacity.  Bring at least $5 for ice cream and bring
snacks, lunch and plenty of water in a backpack for riding or a bag attached to the bike. Carol T
would welcome any adult chaperones or just adults wanting to do the ride. Riders need a good
working bicycle either road bike or mountain, a spare tube in case of flats.  Meet at the bike ferry
parking lot on Martin Road in South Hero at 10 AM on Thursday, June 27, 2024 and plan to be
back around 3PM that day.  If you have questions or to register for this event, contact Carol
Tremble at 802-372-6313 or [email protected]. Free event for anyone from South Hero
who wants to participate and if the $5 for ice cream is too much for your family, the Town
Recreation department or Carol will cover it. Parents please download the Waiver form at
https://southherovt.org/departments/rec/ or sign one when dropping off your child for the event.

The South Hero Recreation Commission is pleased to offer Free One Day Passes to the Catamount Family Outdoor Center in Williston, Vermont.  These passes are available at no charge to any South Hero Residents and are good for one day. For tickets please go to the Worthen Library of South Hero or the South Hero Town Hall and present any form of ID or other proof of SH residency.

The Catamount Outdoor Family Center is the non-profit steward of the Catamount Community Forest, a town-owned forest on Governor Chittenden Road in Williston, Vermont. The more than 400-acre property includes trails for a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

The South Hero Recreation Commission is pleased to offer First Sail Certificates at the Burlington Community Sailing Center. These are $50 certificates available at no charge to South Hero Residents:

Take Your First Sail on Lake Champlain

If you aren’t sure if sailing is right for you or if you do not have time for a full course, this is the program that will get you out on the water. In partnership with US Sailing’s First Sail program, Community Sailing Center is offering several opportunities throughout the summer for you to experience your first sail.

For tickets, please go to the South Hero Town Hall and present any form of ID or other proof of SH residency. Limit: 4 certificates per household.
