Mission Statement:  The mission of the South Hero Conservation Commission is to help preserve the town’s natural beauty and rural character by promoting a better understanding and appreciation for the natural, scenic, recreational, historic, educational, cultural, architectural, woodland, agricultural, and archeological resources, and by collaborating with the public and town officials to value and manage these resources for the benefit of current and future generations.

Green Up Day: Saturday, May 4th!

Green Up South Hero is an event that brings the community together to keep South Hero clean and litter-free. The
South Hero Conservation Commission is leading the street and road clean-up. All are invited to participate.
Participants from past years have received their requested route assignments, and some early birds may even be
getting started soon.
Help us Green Up our roadsides and other public spaces! To participate, please email the South Hero Conservation
Commission at [email protected], and we’ll do our best to accommodate your requested route or let you
know which routes need coverage.
We’re seeking more volunteers to clean up along portions of Route 2, Ferry Road, and West Shore Road along the Town Beach. Remember to prioritize safety while cleaning up around town. Wear bright, visible clothing, and
gloves, and always face oncoming traffic. (Only adults should handle needles.) Tie up full bags, and be sure to check
for ticks afterward.
Keelers Bay Variety has graciously offered to help distribute Green Up bags during regular store hours. A big thank you to KBV and the Horne family!
South Hero Land Trust (SHLT) will also host a clean-up and tree-planting event at the South Hero Rec Park from 9
am to 11 am on Green Up Day. This is a great option for families with young children who may want to avoid being
along a road, and as an overflow event for anyone not assigned a road section. Please RSVP for the Rec Park event
here: SHLT.org/events/gud2024.
After the clean-up, SHLT will host their free annual Volunteer Appreciation BBQ from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at
Folsom School. Vegan, vegetarian, and GF options will be available, and all are welcome to come together, enjoy
some delicious food, and celebrate the community!
