Notes from informal meeting of South Hero Recreation Commission Since it wasn’t properly warned with agenda
Tuesday, May 13, 2025 Attended by Phil Scott, Marion Palermo, Jessica Jackson, Sue Arquin, Carol Tremble, Lucy Lane (new rec commission member) and Guy Maguire Guest
Welcome to our newest member Lucy Lane just appointed by the selectboard. Notes from Town Officials:
1. Meetings must be warned publicly at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
2. Kim Julow, town treasurer, requested that all purchases go to the town credit card. In other words, Rec committee should find the link to what is needed and send that link to the treasurer so she can purchase the item. I am not sure how Jessica gets involved. Must be the link goes to Jessica and she forwards to Kim. Unfortunately, Carol Tremble has purchased a few items for the beach on her own credit card and then sought reimbursement so she will try to follow the protocol requested by the Town Treasurer.
3. All Rec commission members must take a 15 minute Ethics course offered by VT League of Cities and Towns. All will attempt to comply.
Guy Maguire:
1. Met with the Shoreland Protection and Conservation Commission about shoreline restoration at the beach now that trees are gone and they plan to keep the stumps and plant new trees and low growing bushes with pathways through them to get to the beach. Funding is available
2. He walked to Lavin Trail which the town now owns and plans to brush hog and mow for informal trail
3. He also walked the Island Acres Trail around Steve and Kelly Robinson’s land and showed us where these trails are located
4. We briefly discussed connecting the various trails to the Round Pond trail system.
