Wastewater Committee
Minutes of a Meeting on June 16, 2025
Present: Bob Buermann, Rich Goggin, Nate Hayward, Bob Krebs, Peter Zamore
The meeting was called to order at 4:30 pm.
On motion of Bob Buermann and second of Bob Krebs, the minutes of the January 6,
2025 meeting were approved.
Peter Zamore indicated that the town’s purchase of the Lavin property was completed last
Thursday and that the associated documents were released from escrow. He also stated that
despite repeated requests, Otter Creek Engineering has not completed the Preliminary
Engineering Report and it is still at 90% complete. He indicated that Otter Creek has not
resolved billing issues that have prevented the town from being reimbursed for some of its Otter
Creek expenses.
Peter stated that near-term potential next steps include delineating the areas of wetlands
on the Lavin property, undertaking additional test pits if appropriate, and analyzing the timing
and factors underlying project design. Nate stated that it will likely be appropriate to postpone
potential consideration of a spray or drip, which has a larger capacity but is more costly than a
mound system, until a later phase. Peter indicated that at some point additional grant funds will
be necessary.
Peter indicated that other groups have been involved in discussions as to possible uses for
the Lavin property other than for wastewater disposal. These include the Planning Commission,
the Conservation Commission and the South Hero Land Trust. He said that the Selectboard
retains ultimate oversight as to uses and that this committee’s role is limited to wastewater issues.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 pm.
