Recreation Commission Meeting
March 21, 2023

Members present: Phil Scott, David Lane, Dylan Degree, Rosemary Zamore, Marion Palermo. Guests: Guy Maguire, Peter Zamore, Howard Scott

1. Call to order 7:01

3. Acknowledgment and approval of previous meeting minutes
4. Public input
Peter Zamore presented a grant opportunity to connect the Bike/Pedestrian Path. VTrans could close the gap in the southern half. Funds for abandoned railpath, federal level, tight schedule, deadlines for completing the project. Pat Corbin in a nursing home, could speak to her now. Linda Kinney is her niece. David Lane can talk to her. Substantial money available. Northern easement cost $40,000 conveyed to the town by Local Motion. Peter will contact Emily Alger and Andy Julow. Need discussion with Fish and Wildlife. Restrictions on Roy Marsh trail.
Deadlines for funding in June and September.

5. Discussion Items

· 23/24 Budget Approval and adjustments to 22/23 budget – David Lane. Budget approved.
·
The Rec Commission voted tonight and unanimously agreed to the following regarding beach parking passes.
Residents: $5 each, limit of 2 per household.
Non Residents: $55 each, limited to 70 total passes.

Dylan Degree will inform the Select Board at the next meeting.

· Soccer equipment shed – Dylan. Will follow up with Jessica.
Jessica- Folsom is planning to install a shed once the snow melts and the ground isn’t soggy with mud. It will be next to the existing school shed by the dumpster with the door facing the paved lot and will only be for school equipment.
· Long jump – Jessica tabled for now
· Learn to Ski/Ride Program – Dylan- Very successful, all kids progressed. Will review the year. David has not received the bill yet.
. Basketball reimbursement, passed
· Swim Lessons – Dylan- Will contact the Red Cross who might offer lessons certified through Camp Hochelaga.
· Town Beach Improvements- Dylan- Will submit plans to the town officers.
· Learn to Sail Programs – Phil- Don’t have tickets yet. Will publicize on Front Porch Forum, town website, Islander, etc.
· Catamount Outdoor Center Tickets – Phil Talk to Keagan at the library.
· Discussion of indoor facilities in South Hero for senior/family activities. Rosemary- List published in last months minutes. Phil will contact Skip Brown as to where to post information.
· Trails sub-committee- Guy- trails update. Wetland permits for Robinson property came out high- $6000-9000. Maybe scale down the project with an out and back trail. The South Hero Recreation park grant behind the school is moving forward. Have not heard back from Lake Champlain Basin for the boardwalk restoration. South Hero Land Trust received $5000 for an outdoor classroom. Guy will meet with Nancy Patch, the county forester.
· Other Winter/Spring activities – planning/suggestions? Who gets port-a-lets? Dave will look into that.
