Recreation Commission Meeting
April 11, 2023
Members present: Phil Scott, Dylan Degree, Rosemary Zamore, Carol Tremble, Marion Palermo, Guest- Sandy Gregg.
1. Call to order 7:10
2. Adjustments to the agenda-Updates, Dylan ski and ride, soccer
3. Acknowledgment and approval of previous meeting minutes
4. Public input, Sandi Gregg. StreetScapes. VTrans sidewalk scoping project. Ranked the projects, Hoyle and Tanner in Burlington selected. Need a steering committee: 2-3 Planning Commission seats, 2-3 Recreation members (Phil (tentative) and Marion volunteered), one selectman. One meeting per month. Researching costs, right of ways, sidewalks on the side of the road. Connect the two villages from the Brew Pub, and the Keeler Bay Variety store on sides of Rte 2.
Community Cheers and Cheese. June 26, 4-6. Fundraiser for Town Meeting House. Dylan will volunteer for pie in the face. YOGI will set up an activity. Concept board visual presentation regarding South Hero Recreation Park to be set up by this commission. Free popcorn. Ask Mary Harwood for $ available for saving old villages. Nate Hayward will make a presentation.
5. Discussion Items
Budget Approval and adjustments to 22/23 – Dylan suggested funds for next year be approved.
Ski and Ride Dylan, parents drive, can we get a bus? Any liability issues? How to make it easier.
Whites Beach. David Hobbs will get Port-a-let and hire a parking attendant. Ross Brown will take care of grading for the type of sand for volleyball court and beach. Swing set, barbeque grills also needed.
Soccer Shed is being taken over by the school.
Swim Lessons – Carol Tremble will contact Camp Hochelaga for swim lessons. Ongoing discussion.
Learn to Sail Program – Phil- Online reservations, $50 will have to be prepayed by us. Will publicize on Front Porch Forum, town website, Islander, etc. Rosemary- published list. Phil will contact Skip Brown as to where to post information.
Trails sub-committee- tabled
Tryathlon- Contact Jessica
Town Park Update- Ask Nate Hayward to make a presentation.
Other Activities- Volleyball for middle/high schoolers. Dylan will ask Phil Reynolds to help coach.
Sue Arguin is town administrator. [email protected] Ask her to update the list of our activities. Phil will contact her. Rosemary will help with the list at the next meeting.
May 1 ARPA meeting.
